I, for one, am particularly picky about books, but I don’t have much of a problem with Collins’ writing. Her writing isn’t fancy or ornate, and she’s not particularly creative in her structure, but it’s very accessible. When you’re telling such a complex story to young readers, accessibility is important.

They remind me of The Da Vinci Code in that the writing style is bland and simple, but really engaging. This is one of the few books that I enjoyed and am really looking forward to the movie. Suzanne Collins is a screenwriter and it should make a great movie for her book.

This series is written for middle and high school students, so I’d estimate the reading level to be around 7th or 8th grade, but that doesn’t mean it’s not well written. I think writing for this particular group of readers is actually harder than writing for any other group. They don’t often read for leisure, and they’re easily distracted.
I will say that it is well written for it’s intended audience.
